BursaRay – Bursa metro

An introduction:
BursaRay is a rapid transit system serving Bursa in the Marmara Region of western Turkey. BursaRay has metro lines operating across Bursa. With the opening of this metro system, Bursa’s mass transit network reached a new level as Bursa metro is one of the best means of transportation in Bursa.
Bursa metro:
The BursaRay metro opened for passenger service on 24 April 2002. Bursa metro presently consists of two lines that operates on 38.9 kilometers (24.2 mi) of route, serving 38 stations (7 of which are underground stations). The two lines share a main line in the east, and branch into two lines at the western end of the system.
The longest line from the BursaRay is Line 2, which starts from Kestel in Kestel district and ends at Üniversite in Nilufer. It runs 31 km and has 32 stops.
The shortest line is Line 1, which begins from Karaman in Osmangazi district and finishes at Emek in Nilüfer district. It runs 7 km with 7 stops.
Historical background of Bursa metro:
The plan was approved on 31. January. 1997. However, construction began almost two years later. BursaRay started trail run on 24th April 2002. Line1 started revenue operation on 19th August, the same year.
- 2nd Jan 2005: construction work begins on BursaRay Phase 1 Stage B.
- 6th Apr 2008: extension east from Sehreküstü – Arabayatagi (i.e. BursaRay Phase 1 Stage B enters service).
- 28th Oct 2008: Phase 2 construction work begins.
- 24th Dec 2010: extension: Phase 2, Küçük Sanayi (Hipodrom) – Özlüce (2.9 km), enters service.
- 19th Sep 2011: extension: Phase 2, Özlüce – Üniversite (3.6 km).
- 15th Dec 2011: extension: Phase 2, Organize Sanayi (1050 Konutlar) – Emek (2.5 km).
- 19th Mar 2014: extension: Phase 3, Arabayatağı – Otosansit (4.4 km).
- 27th Mar 2014: extension: Phase 3, Otosansit – Gürsu (2.0 km).
- 5th Jun 2014: extension: completion of Phase 3, Gürsu – Kestel[5] (1.5 km)
- 2nd Apr 2021: Phase Hospital construction work begins.
- 4th Nov 2021: Infill station “Odunluk” between Nilüfer and Acemler was opened.
Facilities and services:
The stations offer passengers many services to make their journey safe, comfortable and enjoyable. There are social facilities such as cafés, ATMs, kiosks, art galleries and others. There are also emergency tools such as fire extinguishers, emergency door opening handles, etc.
Hours of operation:
The metro system runs each day from early in the morning until around midnight with departures every 9 or 10 minutes. The metro is a fast and easy way to transit the city.
BursaKart, the key to using Bursa metro:
Bursa Kart is key to using Bursa public transportation, including Bursa Metro. The BursaKart is a plastic card that serves as a reusable ticket on city buses, trams, and metros. (It also can be used to pay for some public toilets and to pay the entry fee in some museums.) To use your BursaKart, place it in front of the scanner when entering a metro station. The appropriate fee will be automatically deducted from the credit contained on your BursaKart.
